It is estimated that only one in four South Africans suffering from a mental illness or disorder will receive some form of care. This means that the majority of people who require access to mental health care services will not get the help they need. In South Africa, some of the barriers that make it difficult for people to access mental health services include the stigma associated with asking for help, long waiting times at local clinics and the high cost of private support. As a low-cost service, Anchen Terblanche Counselling positions itself as an affordable choice for individuals and families looking to access basic mental health care services.

The foundation of successful counselling, for me, is the relationship between myself and my client – together we create a safe, controlled and private space where it becomes possible for us to delve into core issues and traumas.
Grief and Bereavement
We are trained and qualified to help you process the feelings you have as you go through the stages of grief – denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance – and adapt to your new life. It can be tricky to separate the two, but the differences are there. In conclusion, grief forms an emotional reaction to loss, while bereavement is the time period after the loss whereby the person grieves and mourns that loss.
Anxiety
You will work with your counsellor to identify any interpersonal issues you may have, such as unresolved grief, conflicts with family or friends, changes in work or social roles, and problems relating to others. You’ll then learn healthy ways to express emotions and ways to improve your communication with others.
Adjusting to life transitions
Adjusting to changes can be difficult. Counselling acts as a guide and a helper in the challenging situations caused by life transitions. Life transitions can be positive such as getting a dream job or can be negative such as the death of loved ones or job loss.
Coping Skills
Coping skills help you tolerate, minimize, and deal with stressful situations in life. Managing your stress well can help you feel better physically and psychologically and it can impact your ability to perform your best. But not all coping skills are created equal.
Career Guidance
It is a comprehensive, developmental program designed to assist individuals in making and implementing informed educational and occupational choices. Career guidance will help the people to fulfill their aspirations by setting up realistic goals. As mentioned earlier, career choice will determine the future of the students not only by providing them their dream job but also by providing them a better future with job satisfaction.
Substance abuse and addiction
The use of illegal drugs or the use of prescription or over-the-counter drugs or alcohol for purposes other than those for which they are meant to be used, or in excessive amounts. Substance abuse may lead to social, physical, emotional, and job-related problems.
Health & Wellness
Wellness Counsellors serve to enhance the total wellbeing of their clients by making use of a systems approach to counselling – working towards achieving wholeness within the integrative unity of body, mind and spirit. The level of counselling is that of primary health care.
Personal Enrichment
Self-awareness – gained through personal development – is perhaps especially important in person-centred counselling, which is all about relating to the client in a way that embodies the three core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard.
Anger management
The aim of anger management counselling sessions is to help minimize stressful or anger-evoking situations, improve self-control, and help you express your feelings in a healthy manner
Relationship Counselling
Relationship counseling, which is also called couple’s counselling is a type of counseling that helps couples of all types to explore, recognize, and resolve conflicts in an effort to improve their relationships and interactions.
Trauma Debriefing
Trauma debriefing and Trauma counselling promotes healing and recovering after the trauma, it provides containment, emotional support and usually diminishes the symptoms of trauma. It provides the victim/s with the opportunity to express and process difficult feelings.
Personal Growth
Personal growth counselling will help a person maximize congruence: a state of being where beliefs and values are aligned with speech and action. It will help a person with self-understanding, capacity for achievement, and the ability to better enjoy life at any instant
Stress Management
A counsellor can help you to explore and understand what is causing your stress. You can then work together to find some specific solutions that will help you to combat it. Your counsellor is someone you can offload to and be totally honest with. We will not judge you.
Psychoeducation
Psychoeducation combines the elements of cognitive-behavior briefing, group sessions, and education. The basic aim is to provide the patient and families knowledge about various facets of the illness and its treatment so that they can work together with mental health professionals for a better overall outcome.
Emotion regulation
Much like a compass that guides us in the right direction, emotions have the power to guide us to the right actions. For example, when a child commits a mistake, they might get scared and lie to their parents about it, or avoid confronting them for fear of punishment.
Motivation and procrastination
Motivation is what drives you to achieve what needs to be done. Determining what motivates you can help you overcome procrastination. What causes procrastination? Not confronting your fears. You may fear failure, rejection, or not doing your best work and being poorly judged by others.
If you are seeking professional counselling services in Pioneer Park Newcastle Kzn, or nearby, I will gladly accompany you on this journey. For individuals who struggle to find the time to attend counselling, we can also arrange to conduct your sessions online.
