The Bee Wild team work with nature to ethically and sustainably source only the best and most nutritious honey you could wish for. Maintaining maximum health benefits means that honey from Bee Wild hives is never heated or altered in any way but stays just the way it was intended – REAL and RAW! Bee Wild hives are only located in areas in the Western Cape where there is access to diverse and plentiful forage for the bee’s all year round. Different plants yield different colours, textures and flavours of honey.
Kevin Simpson (Founder) started beekeeping initially as a hobby. The idea was to establish some hives on our smallholding in the Elandskraal area of Knysna, as a means of generating some income through the sale of honey. Since then, I’ve established in excess of 20 apiaries situated with more than 170 of my owned and managed hives in Franschoek, Stanford, Cape Peninsula and the Garden Route.
In 2017 our Elandskraal farm was destroyed by fire. Unfortunately, we also lost 10 productive hives in the destruction that followed. This fire was followed by a severe drought in 2017 and devastating fires in Franschoek in 2019. Whilst we didn’t lose any hives (these were evacuated in time), we’ve lost valuable forage for our bees.
It was soon evident that beekeeping in South Africa, was challenging and draining. In 2018 we started pollinating for growers in the Ceres, Wellington and Robertson areas. This has grown tremendously as fruit growers increase plantings by as much as 95% over a 5-year period.
Our biggest challenge remains finding safe, secure and suitable sites for our bees.
Bee Wild Honey Products
The Bee Wild team proudly manage sustainable hives while extracting our own honey. We have sites in various biomes around the Western Cape, which impact the taste of our honey naturally. Currently available in 500g & 750ml bottles or a 5kg tub and we proudly offer the following honey variations:
Wild Blossom
This flavour of honey is due to our bees foraging on wildflowers at certain times of the year. If you enjoy a subtle taste of honey, then this is the one for you.
Eucalyptus
Our bees use the surrounding Eucalyptus trees around Stanford to create a unique honey to enjoy.
Fynbos
Unique to the Western Cape, our Fynbos honey is one of a kind. Enjoy a delicate balance of subtle flavours from our Franschoek and Stanford apiaries.

Is Honey Healthier Than Sugar
Yes. Sugar is higher on the glycemic index (GI), that means it raises blood sugar levels faster. Sugar has higher fructose content and doesn’t have trace minerals. Honey is sweeter than sugar so less is required.

NUTRITIONAL BENEFITS OF HONEY:
Good quality honey includes organic acids and phenolic compounds, which by combining gives honey it’s antioxidant benefits.
Antioxidants have been linked to reduced heart attack, strokes and some cases of cancer.
When applied to the skin, honey can be part of an effective healing plan for burns, wounds or any skin conditions.
For children over the age of 1 years old, honey can be used as a natural cough suppressant.
