Our Services

Dietitian consultation includes the following assessments: Anthropometry (weight, height, body fat etc), Biochemical assessment (analysis of blood results), Clinical assessment (nutritional deficiencies), Diet history, psycho-social assessment. This is followed by nutrition goals, nutrition education and planning to achieve set nutritional goals (diet sheet and meal plan)

MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY:

DIABETES MELLITUS, HYPERTENSION AND HEART DISEASES

People with diabetes are also more likely to have other conditions that raise the risk for heart disease: High blood pressure increases the force of blood through your arteries and can damage artery walls. Having both high blood pressure and diabetes can greatly increase your risk for heart disease.

KIDNEY AND LIVER DISEASE

Often it’s the result of a combination of different problems. CKD can be caused by: high blood pressure – over time, this can put strain on the small blood vessels in the kidneys and stop the kidneys working properly.. Good foods that help repair your kidneys include apples, blueberries, fish, kale, spinach, and sweet potatoes.

GOUT AND ARTHRITIS

Eating a diet rich in red meat and shellfish and drinking beverages sweetened with fruit sugar (fructose) increase levels of uric acid, which increase your risk of gout. Alcohol consumption, especially of beer, also increases the risk of gout.

GASTROINTESTINAL DISORDERS: MAUSEA, VOMITING & CONSTIPATION

Gastrointestinal (GI) illness is caused by a variety of different disease-causing microbes or germs that can be acquired by consuming contaminated food or beverages, contact with contaminated recreational water.

GASTRIC ULCERS

Stomach ulcers are usually caused by an infection of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria, or from taking anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen and aspirin

TB & HIV/AIDS

Untreated latent TB infection can quickly progress to TB disease in people living with HIV since the immune system is already weakened. And without treatment, TB disease can progress from sickness to death

FOOD ALLERGIES AND INTOLERANCES

If you suspect you have a food allergy, avoid exposure to the food altogether until your doctor’s appointment. If you do eat the food and have a mild reaction, over-the-counter antihistamines may help relieve symptoms. If you have a more severe reaction and any signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis, seek emergency help.

NUTRITIONAL ANAEMIA

To treat nutritional-deficiency anemia, a doctor will recommend having a varied diet that contains plenty of mineral-rich and fortified foods. They may also recommend supplements, if appropriate.

HIGH CHOLESTEROL

Soluble fiber is also found in such foods as kidney beans, Brussels sprouts, apples and pears. Soluble fiber can reduce the absorption of cholesterol into your bloodstream. Five to 10 grams or more of soluble fiber a day decreases your LDL cholesterol

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT (WEIGHT GAIN/LOSS)

It is best to eat plenty of protein, fat, and carbs at each meal. You may want to avoid eating plans such as intermittent fasting. This eating plan can be useful for weight loss and other benefits but can make it much harder to eat enough calories to gain weight.

WOMAN HEALTH (PREGNANCY, BREASTFEEDING)

Opt for protein-rich foods, such as lean meat, eggs, dairy, beans, lentils and seafood low in mercury. Choose a variety of whole grains as well as fruits and vegetables. Eating a variety of foods while breastfeeding will change the flavor of your breast milk

INFANT AND YOUNG CHILD FEEDING

Early initiation of breastfeeding within 1 hour of birth; exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life; and. introduction of nutritionally-adequate and safe complementary (solid) foods at 6 months together with continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond.
